Yu Sheng

The Yu Sheng, 鱼生, is one of my fave dish during chinese new year.

yusheng_thumb

Don’t ask me is it because we only get to eat this dish once a year or for whatever reasons.

I cannot answer that question as well, but i just know that i love the taste of this dish (and it is supposed quite an healthy dish, given that there are lots of vegetables that went into the composition of the dish.

Each year, i always aim to eat at least 7 times through the 15 days of CNY, cos my parents always have this saying that the more times you eat, the better Fortune you will have in the New Year!! (and of cos, usually, we start 捞-ing even before the CNY… haha)

But the funny thing is, each time when we eat at home, we usually just dump everything in and we would not know what to say for each item.

So since the Yu Sheng is customarily eaten during CNY for prosperity and good luck, each ingredient should be added to the dish with an auspicious phrase with great significant.

Hence i have found the interpretations here:

LIME 大吉大利 - May you have good luck, success and prosperity.

FISH 年年有余- Wishing you surplus wealth in the New year.

PEPPER AND FIVE SPICE POWDER 鸿运当头, 五福临门 - May great fortune smile upon you and that you have a smooth sailing career.

OIL 财源滚滚来- Wishing you a prosperous New Year

PLUM SAUCE 甜甜蜜蜜- May you have a year of happiness and sweetness

CRACKERS 遍地黄金- Wishing you a great abundance of Gold!! (i am sure everyone loves this BEST! :D )

Of course, this is just a sample.. you can always have your very own interpretation version.

Whatever it is, its the Fun of tossing and everyone having fun at the same time!!

One more day before the CNY official ends….so if you have not eaten Yu Sheng during the CNY this year, get one tomorrow and have a great time with your family or friends!! =D

14 Feb 2011

Somehow, as you grow older, celebrations start to be less elaborate as when we were much younger.

Yet the idea is still there. Quality time over anything else.

Last year, as 14 Feb falls on the first day of Lunar New Year, I don’t quite recall what we did we do to celebrate, other than the numerous house visitations.

This year, we have a “life-long” lamp post, which we have to take care, so we also could not go for a long dinner.

Nonetheless, we still had a very good quality and sumptuous dinner @ Watami Clarke Quay, before heading home before 730pm, to take over baby from my mother in law.

Like many people say, this year, somehow, lesser flower bouquets we see around, but yet, Love is still in the air.

Love is not meant to be shown only once a year. Love should be shown everyday, through our daily words and actions.

But i still buy the idea, that on 14 Feb 2011, we should still do something special, just to make our love feel extra-special on this day. Don’t ya agree? =)

Our dinner. Smile

We were so full by the time we finished like 70% of the food and could not eat anymore…..

(P.S. we did not intentionally order so much, but all was in one set price, but i would say, its definitely a Super Value Meal!! )

And after that, we rushed home by 715pm, to take over baby from my mother in law.

Efficient dinner, but quality time spent. Satisfied. Smile

Counting down.

final countdown to the big day in Feb!!

17 days to go before the end of the agony of amending the slides.

Just went thru another round with my FD and got to amend the slides again! God, help me!!

Can’t wait for it to be over and then, i can finally move on to other things on my to do list.

---------------------------

My dad will be going for his heart surgery tomorrow.

Though doctor say the risk is not that high for this surgery, but still, anything to do with the

heart sounds scary. So even though my dad keep telling us no need to fuss, but i can sense

that he is really worried.

I initially plan to take leave tomorrow to accompany my mum to wait outside the OT,

but suay suay, the trainer is coming for the next 2 days to prep us for the presentation.

So leave frozen. Sigh~~

So i will fix my eyes on God and my phone, to wait for my mum’s updates.

And meanwhile, say a lil prayer for my dad.

I am sure my God will take care of him. Amen.

CNY gatherings

One of the reason that i love Chinese New year, other than all the goodies to munch,

is none other than the gatherings that we always have.

Other than the gathering of those see-once-a-year relatives type (nothing worth mentioning about..hiakhiak),

i more look forward to the gathering with friends that we hardly get to meet up during the year.

One of my girlfriend is back to celebrate CNY with her baby from London, and she be going back next friday.

So we had a gathering of the GIRLS last sat at my place.

It was such a great time of fellowship, where we just sat around, chatting and catching up.

Best part was when we started to remember our secondary school days, having funny and weird

history and geography teachers (ya, we all were from the same secondary sch). So meaning we have

known one another for more than a decade!! OMG!! getting old manz!!

We used to be school girls, playing hockey and floorball together.

Now we are almost all married, some with kids.

Time flies indeed. ~

And of cos, CNY gatherings always should end off

with a time of YU-Sheng,

which is my fave food during CNY.

This is my third one, and counting.

Aim to go for 7 this year.

7 is a good number. 7 for completion. :DDD

End of Jan 11

Time and tide leaves no man.

So true indeed.

The month of January was such a nightmare.

Apart from the year end closing and preparation for the dry run for the AQR presentation, Baby Justin was warded for 5 days in NUH due to Kawasaki disease. In fact, he was already falling sick from the last week of December and recovered on the first week of January. And just barely 3 weeks, he was down again and this time, sick big time. Never did we expect that we are so “lucky”, to strike a disease that only 1 out of a few hundred kids will get it.

Well, life goes on.

Thank God for great friends and family support during this period of time. With all the prayers and good doctors in NUH, baby justin was discharged on last friday. Praise God.

Now, for the next 6 weeks, it is close monitoring at home. No fever pls. God, please contd to cover your almighty hands over this little one.

Anyway, Daddy Gerald decided that we should capture more quality shots of Justin from now on, and we need a much better camera than the compact Lumix camera that Mummy Kristie was using. Plus he had a team of colleagues who are camera-whores!!!

So now, we own our very first kick-ass DSLR camera!! *whistle**

So on sunday, before the reunion dinner started, we tried out our camera on the star.
